Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally

Catching Jordan (Hundred Oaks, #1)
*This review is a bit more list like, I am in the need to catch up, so my review formats are going to be different from what they usually are*

ONE OF THE BOYS
What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university.
But everything she's ever worked for is threatened when Ty Green moves to her school. Not only is he an amazing QB, but he's also amazingly hot. And for the first time, Jordan's feeling vulnerable. Can she keep her head in the game while her heart's on the line?

Quick side note: 2012 ended with a series of contemporary novels. I have fallen in love with this genre, and Kenneally is officially one of my favorites.

I am one of those weird people who read the books out of order. I read the 2nd book, Stealing Parker, before reading catching Jordan; Nonetheless I LOVED Catching Jordan.  It was a fast, entertaining, relatable read, and the bonus was an abundance of hot athletic guys. ;)

Things I loved:
  • Jordan! She is a tough chick, knows what she wants, persistent, and guys have never been in her agenda. I admire her focus, and desire to achieve. Never being involved in a relationship  she dealt with her relationship with Ty really well, and tried to maintain all her other relationships.
  • The creation of each intricate relationship was just beautiful  Each person had a special connections, and I especially adored the one between Jordan and her brother, and the relationship between Ty and Henry, though Henry has feelings for Jordan.
  • The love triangle! I know, I know, love triangles are over done, and horrible and everything else that is bad in the world. But the love triangle in Catching Jordan was actually quite interesting, and it was different. The the triangle was there, but how it was approached was quite different.
  •  Humor. The book had a lot of funny moments, especially when Jordan's brother was involved :D
  • The background story. Each character was completely explained; there mannerisms and behavior of each character was explained by what has happened in their past.

Things I didn't love as much:
  • Ty's personality got quite annoying after awhile. He is demanding and whinny, and for a good reason too. But after a while I got really irritated of his personality, especially when he expected so much from Jordan (That is the independent girl in me).
So as you can tell I loved so many things in this book, and the only thing I hated was a character. As an avid reader and writer, characters have their own personalities once on paper, you can't tone them down, you just have to go with the flow. Catching Jordan will appeal to most people; boys it has the sports, the toughness, and is not too heavy dosed on the romance, and girls, there is enough romance and hot guys to keep up happy ;). And for all other literary lovers, it is a well written, and well executed story that you must read! Rate: 4.5/5

  1. Yay, I'm so happy that you loved this one! Catching Jordan is definitely one of my top favorites! I still need to read Stealing Parker, lol! And Kenneally has two more releasing this year, eeep! I can't wait for 'em!

And yes, I agree about the love triangle thingy. It totally caught me off guard which is why I love CJ that much more, I think. Also, I agree with you about Ty. He did come across as a bit whinny. I was like, "What the heck? Isn't he the love interest? I am *so* not feeling him!" LOOOL

    Great review! I loved it!(:

  2. Wow, it definitely seemed like you enjoyed this one a ton! I love a good main character, and developed minor characters are awesome to find in a book as well. The relationships sound so deep and well-crafted, and that can be so hard to find sometimes in books! Also, I'm a bit surprised to hear that you actually liked the love triangle! That doesn't happen often with me, but I think I may end up liking it as well. =)

Fantastic review Ishita! Since you only seemed to have one major negative for this book, I think I will definitely have to pick this one up, as the good definitely seems to cancel out the bad! <3
