Moonglass by Jessi Kirby

I read once that water is a symbol for emotions. And for a while now, I've thought maybe my mother drowned in both.
Anna's life is upended when her father accepts a job transfer the summer before her junior year. It's bad enough that she has to leave her friends and her life behind, but her dad is moving them to the beach where her parents first met and fell in love- a place awash in memories that Anna would just as soon leave under the surface.
While life on the beach is pretty great, with ocean views and one adorable lifeguard in particular, there are also family secrets that were buried along the shore years ago. And the ebb and flow of the ocean's tide means that nothing- not the sea glass that she collects on the sand and not the truths behind Anna's mother's death- stays buried forever.

After reading Moonglass I was in tears...tears of joy that is. Moonglass brought out every emotion in me, whether it be joy, grief, sorry, or anger. The beauty was in the simplicity of the writing.

Moonglass is the story of Anna Ryan and her path to discovering herself. After losing her mother many years ago Anna now lives with her father. If losing a mother wasn't enough, Anna now has to leave the one place she calls home. Little did Anna know, her father's new job transfer will bring her her back closer to her mother and simpler times.

Kirby did a flawless job creating Anna. Everything about Anna's character was admirable. The way Anna carried herself with poise and strength versus her ability to communicate made her the more realistic and admirable. Unlike many female protagonist, Anna wasn't the girl you would feel sorry for. After moving to Crystal Cove and restarting her life, Anna meets some amazing people. Her new friends Ashley and Jillian just gave Anna the normalcy she needed. While love interest Tyler Evans helped Anna cope. Other small characters, played a big role in Anna's life. Though while reading many would not make sense, in the end they all came together as a whole. The chemistry between all the characters created this concoction which really complimented the book.

As a debut novel I didn't find a single thing that I did not like about Moonglass. While reading there were no pages full of excess unneeded details. There were no wasted words. The simplicity of Kirby's writing was truly quality instead of quantity. The writing itself was poetic and smooth. The best part, the book had bursts of humor which kept the book light and airy. Every word I read, I just wanted more. It was everything a book should-fun, smooth, meaningful, and unique- this is great for any reader. Everyone can take something out of this book, so pick this book up next! You won't be sorry! I would give this book a 5/5 for just being amazing and perfect!
