Review: Sleight by Jennifer Sommersby

Sleight (AVRA-K #1)Hey guys! Today my other helper (for reviewing), Sneha is doing a review! Sneha is one of my brother's other friends, and she is exactly like me. Addicted to books! She is a lover all things fiction and she has a great review for you!

Her mom is dead. Ghosts follow her around.
Her best friend is an elephant.
And she’s about to meet the biggest game changer of all: a boy. With a secret.

When circus-dwelling Gemma Flannery learns she will be attending public school for the first time in her seventeen years, little does she know that fitting in with her 12th-grade classmates will be the least of her concerns. A pro at hiding her knack for seeing the dead (“shades”), Gemma is grieving the recent suicide of her mentally ill mother, a process eased by the introduction of her first real love interest, the charming and painfully handsome Henry Dmitri, who is harboring his own collection of dangerous secrets. Together, they will be presented with a frightening challenge: to assume their roles as heirs to a 3000-year-old magical text, the AVRAKEDAVRA, a book the über-rich, sleight-of-being master Lucian Dmitri would do anything to get his hands on. As each terrifying layer in her new reality melts away, Gemma unearths truths that her quiet, nomadic life with the Cinzio Traveling Players is not at all what she’d always cherished. Gemma and Henry must rely on each other to stop Lucian’s diabolical plotting that will bring the world to its tired, scab-riddled knees, and are sent on the flight of their young lives, to save themselves, their families, and the world from the darkest kind of destruction.

With no mother, an elephant for a friend, and ghosts following her every step, seventeen year old Gemma Flannery is left to fend for herself in the brutal, chaotic world of public high school. As if attending Eaglefern HS wasn’t enough, a bustling circus on the verge of collapsing is the only place left for Gemma to call ‘home’. Like me, you will be sucked into the enticing, vivid world of Sleight where surprising twists and turns are very common. Gluing my eyes to each page, the descriptive words suck the story out of Gemma’s unusual life as the surprising story of Sleight unravels. (I practically devoured the book in like five hours =D and I am only eleven!!!) After falling in live with Henry Dmitri, Gemma pieces together secrets about her confusing life that are revealed from this mysterious romance with her boyfriend. Only trusting each other, this cute couple goes on an action packed journey to unearth the entire truth of the AVRAKEDAVRA, an ancient magical text that controls the destiny of the world.

Gemma Flannery- a seventeen year old girl whose bright red hair and beautiful, perfect complexion deceive everyone as her life is filled with deep secrets and mysterious twists.

I have no idea what to say about this award because I absolutely love this book!!! I recommend it to everyone ages eleven and up, I hope you love it to!!! I rate it 5/5 stars, enjoy reading!

-Sneha
