To be truthful, I didn’t expect much from reading Elixir. The plot line, sounded interesting from the summary and the cover was also intriguing. I was expecting a very child-ish and well dull book. But instead I received an interesting, romantic, tragedy. Hillary Duff did a pretty good job writing her debut novel. There were many flaws, but overall it wasn’t all that bad.

Hillary Duff created a plot that had you hooked. You start off with a depressed girl, her spunky best friend with two guys in Paris...WHAT CAN GO WRONG!?! :D (Oh the irony.....) Now add her hot best friend (Dude of course ;] ) and a search for a missing father, and well an Elixir that lets you live forever. Now we are getting somewhere....but it just gets even better, you add another amazing guy, but he is better than the first because his name makes it better....SAGE! :D. Oh and don’t forget the portion of eternal love either! All these elements together just built a pretty interesting book.

But will all things taken into the consideration, the book had many errors. Not grammar, but more like execution errors. H. Duff had a great idea, but putting this story on paper didn’t work all that great. The story telling lacked the depth, and feeling that it needed. The characters seemed to be in a teenage drama, they had emotions, just the usual undying love for each other, and basic love triangle. This may be in many popular books of today, but the way it is presented makes it unique.

Though it was a common book (so to speak), I had trouble to stop reading. The characters...No the guys, were pretty amazing. There are two that must be focused on...Ben and SAGE :D. Ben is a hot “Body Guard” who let’s say is a genius! He is smart, sweet, and he’s only 20 and has graduated from College already :). Then there is Sage, he is just wow! Well look at his name, it works for him well. Originally I imagined Sage as a wild child, but as the story went on, well he changed. He is the risk taker and the undying lover....literally. Having both guys in the book really made the book a pleasure to read.

Overall this book wasn’t bad :). I enjoyed it, but like most books it had flaws. I would say this was a good not great book, and it’s a one-time read. The ending was probably the best conclusion for this novel, especially for all the things that happen. I would rate this book a 3.5/5. This book came out in 2010 so it is already in stores, and probably in your local library. So if you enjoy romance, hot guys ;D, adventure, and paranormal type stories, you will enjoy this book.
