Review: Passion (Fallen #3) by Lauren Kate

Luce would die for Daniel.

And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn't need to be that way...

Luce is certain that something - or someone - in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime...going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel...and finally unlock the key to making their love last.

Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history. Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames...forever.
My mind was blown for several days after reading Passion.

For those of you who don't already know, Passion is the third book in the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. I fell in love, almost quite literally, with the main male lead, Daniel Grigori, when I read the first book. I devoured Torment and had been eagerly awaiting Passion's release since November 2010. Thankfully, my best friend was able to buy the book and therefore allow me to borrow it.

(Warning: I usually tend to avoid spoilers in my reviews, but this time, it's too difficult. If you have not read Fallen and Torment, be aware that there are spoilers ahead. Those of you who only haven't read Passion are, for the most part, safe from spoilers throughout the rest of the review.)

Passion was different from the first two books in the series because of the setting--it doesn't really have a solid one. In this novel, Luce Price is traveling back through her and Daniel's past to try to undo the curse that leads up to her death in each lifetime. Honestly, though it tended to get a little repetitive, I loved the time travel aspect. The similarities and differences between each Daniel and Lucinda really intrigued me, and each loss that Daniel had to face tore another piece of my fragile little heart away.

(This is the part where I start writing subtly in order to avoid spoilers. Keep reading; I promise to stop soon.) Two specific things caught my interest in Passion--the truth about Cam, and Luce's guide through time, Bill. Let's face it, for those of you who've read Passion, I don't think that revelation about Cam was much of a surprise. A certain wedding, however, did scare the daylights out of me. Now, cue Bill. Man oh man, I think this guy's true identity turned out to be the biggest shocker of them all. Oh, and the trick known as 3-D--though used a few times too many, it is totally awesome.

Alright, enough with the evasive talk. I loved Passion (no surprise there), and even though it was a bit slower paced than Fallen and Torment, I understand why Lauren Kate had to write it in such a way. It was (almost) just as I had expected in terms of the exploration of Luce's and Daniel's history. What really stood out to me in Passion was the ending. Lauren brought the main ideas back together, but left just enough out to keep the reader anxiously anticipating the next book. I am so excited (and a little sad--after all, no more Daniel... *sobs in a corner*) for the 2012 release of the final book in this series, Rapture.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars
